Digital or Die

One third of companies will not be around in ten years, victims of digital competition, according to Cisco CEO John Chambers. This sounds like the mortality rate of startups, not of corporate America. Adapt or die. Software continues to eat the world.

In finance, already digital but curiously artisanal, will the impact be greater or less? Our guess: the impact on the number of firms will be less, but the impact on the number and function of jobs will be more. The big firms will not be going away.  But in 10 years the remaining staff will be much more efficient, wealthier, and focused on more value added endeavors. Middle-men will diminish while analysts and advisors will prosper.

At least, we hope so, since at DealVector we see our role as helping users at all firms move up the value chain.  Here’s to the future.
